We are delighted to announce the addition of Casey Steffen as Scientific Director to our growing family of MadMicrobes!
Casey is an award-winning 3D medical animator, biomedical visualization scientist, and popularist of science. Casey’s career began after college working in the video game industry. It was here he learned the craft of 3D animation and discovered his passion for scientific data. Following his time in the video game industry, Casey attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where he received his Master of Science in Biomedical Visualization.
Casey’s career spans multiple medical communication industries. Drawing from his background in molecular biology and production techniques used in film and video games, Casey career is marked by the fusion of x-ray crystallography data with mixed-media entertainment experiences. Featured by Wired Magazine for his work creating the first protein “action-figure,” you can see examples of his work in print, on television, and even the big screen.
After having lived all over the world, Casey has an enthusiasm for multi-culturalism, cooking, and travel. He claims to remain an avid surfer despite currently residing in Oklahoma. When Casey is not researching a new protein or working on a 3D animation, you’ll find him circling Lake Hefner on his road bike or walking his dog, Bodhi.
Our team recently created a short 30 second show opener for a corporate/industrial video being produced by the production/mograph house RE:Made. The goals of the project were to communicate the innovative nature of the company and its industrial surface coating products in a dramatic, “high-tech” way, diving all the way down to the macro level on various metallic surfaces.
Its always nice working on creative project like this and getting to bring out tools like X-Particles and Realflow to play with. Was a fast-paced but fun project!
